High Socks, Bowling Balls, and Bumbers | First fall Sisterhood

Our first sisterhood of the semester was a score! With our new members in attendance it was a great time for everyone to be able to introduce themselves and bowl a stike or two. Adding the high socks theme became entertaining as sisters pulled out their Christmas wear and toe socks making the night that much more festive. Thank you to Katie Clarkson as she once again produced a great sisterhood. We can’t wait to see what our next one is!!

We Rose Above The Rest | Formal Recruitment 2012

After months of preparation and a week full of long nights with our sisters, caffiene overdoses, and recreating Live Oak B into beautiful recruitment rooms we can finally say “That’s a Wrap!”.  This years formal recruitment was a huge success and we could not have done it without all the support from each other, our alumnae, all the day chairs, and our Membership Vice President and President, Kali Sweezey and Shellby Sweeney. Each night was decorated beautifully and completely recreated the atmosphere for the night. Meeting all the incredible women throughout the week was truly amazing and we are so proud of our newest new member class, Alpha Pi and its 63 members!

Congratulations to everyone for all their hard work this week. It absolutely paid off in the end. We expect bigs things from our newest pledge class and are so happy that they have found their home in Alpha Xi Delta!

Not Four Years But For Life.

By: Jennifer Berman
Initiated 2007

Since my initiation into Alpha Xi Delta in the fall of 2007, I have read countless quotes and sayings about sororities but none ring as true as the one written above. Not Four Years But For Life. You see it written on picture frames, facebook statuses, t-shirts, and written on the hearts of Alpha Xi Delta sisters across the country.

I remember recruitment like it was yesterday. I went into it alone and came out of it with 75 sisters. Was I afraid? Terrified would be the best word to use. Am I happy I made the decision to go through? I can’t even put how happy I am into words. Out of all of the things in my life that I have done, joining the Theta Iota chapter has got to be at the top of my list.

I feel as though everyone struggles with the same questions when they go through recruitment. Will I make any friends? Will I find my home? Am I making the right choice? I can tell you from experience that the answer to all of those questions in YES. There’s something so amazing about coming together with a group of women who share the same common goals and values as you do, and working together to become something great. Alpha Xi Delta is great because of the amazing women that make this sorority great. As an only child, I never knew what the love for a sibling felt like and, although these ladies are not my sisters by birth, they have showed me what that relationship is like and in my heart they will always be mine. The love that grows between friends with bonds like those between sisters is unexplainable. I have truly found myself in Alpha Xi Delta and attribute who I am today to my sorority and my sisters.

Alpha Xi Delta has given me more than I could have ever imagined. Through my time in my chapter I have grown to become the woman I am today; I have truly realized my potential. I have become a strong, more independent woman and have truly come to know my self-worth through the help of the amazing sisters that I have been blessed with. Being a part of such a wonderful organization and being around so many wonderful women made me want to become a better person, sister, and friend, and pushed me to strive to be the best woman I can be. I wouldn’t trade a single day, and I would go back in a heartbeat.

As an alumni of this wonderful chapter I realize now more than ever how those words you read above ring true. Not Four Years But For Life. It has been 9 months since I have left my chapter and although I miss them more than anything, the love and support from my sisters is never ending. Whether it is a simple text message or facebook post, I know that they are always there and always have my back. The bonds of sisterhood are one of the most remarkable things, and I love knowing that because of my sisterhood I am able to be a part of that.

If I could give any pieces of advice to future sorority women it would be these: hold onto the friendships that you make because they will last forever. Take a camera with you where ever you go and document everything, your time in the chapter will be over before you know it. Attend as many events as you can and get to know as many people as possible, in and out of your chapter. Above all, strive to be the best sister you can be. Not only does the success of your chapter rely on every sister, but the successes of the friendships you make during your time rely on it as well. What you put in is what you will take out. Trust me, you will not regret this decision.

There is nothing better in the world than a group of friends getting together and reminiscing on old memories. Lucky for me I am able to continue to keep in touch with my sisters as I complete my master’s degree at FAU. It warms my heart to see my letters on campus and watch my chapter grow more amazing every day. The best part about it, though, is the constant support that I still receive from sisters regardless of my alumni status. The transition from active sister to alumni has proven to me that the bonds formed between sisters really are some of the strongest bonds created. I love my sisters, I would do anything for them and the success of our chapter, and I look forward to watching their continued success in the future.

If you get a chance to join a sorority, do it. Forget about everything you think and take a chance. Do something you never thought you would do. Meet people that you would have never met. Become the best you that you can be. You can make a difference. Be the change you wish to see in the world. It is an unforgettably life changing experience. Friends change, lovers leave, but sisters are forever.

Sisterhood Slumber Party

By: Ashley Reynolds

With summer coming to its end, the sisters of Alpha Xi Delta were looking forward to the next best thing…a sisterhood all together to kick off the new semester! It was with Katie Clarkson’s, the sisterhood chair, awesome planning that all of the sisters were able to join together for a giant sleepover at the YMCA. Most girls headed there this past Saturday evening with the idea that the night would be full of typical fun girl stuff: catching up from summers apart, movie watching and lots of laughing. Little did we know, many activities were planned for us to really get to know each other as sisters before new members arrive.

Speed dating was on the top of the most fun list! This is when we got to ask each other questions that we thought we knew about each other, but actually did not know. It made for some and some not surprising similarities, such as Channing Tatum being the ultimate favorite actor; who would have guessed! Natalie Rich said “I loved it because it gave me more insight on what some of my sister’s like to do, instead of me just thinking I already knew!” Another activity the girls really enjoyed was opening up and each telling a secret that they wanted to share with each other.

After all of the smiles and belly’s full of candy, the sisters all settled in for a good chick-flick and bed time knowing that it was a great kick off to a great year.

“Sisterhood is the essence of all the wisdom of the ages, distilled into a single word. You cannot see sisterhood, neither can you hear it nor taste it. But you can feel it a hundred times a day. It is a pat on the back, a smile of encouragement. It’s someone to share with, to celebrate your achievements.” ~ Anonymous
