All Hail Queen Michelle…. That’s right, Alpha Xi Delta is proud to announce that our very own Chapter President, Michelle Lauber, has been crowned this year’s Homecoming Queen!!! Michelle was by far the most beautiful candidate in the running, but even more impressive than her exquisite appearance is her love and dedication for FAU! Michelle is by far one of the most school-spirited, motivated individuals you could meet, and she loves her AXiD letters as well as FAU. Michelle has held an Executive Position in our chapter, an Executive Position in Panhellenic, has been an Elite Owl Student Leadership Ambassador, is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society, a member of Order of Omega, as well as currently serving on the board for this year’s Up Til Dawn campaign for St. Jude’s Hospital. Along with those impressive accolades, Michelle maintains an impressive GPA while studying Elementary Education.
Michelle is one of the most impressive young women you will meet and we are proud to not only have her serve as our Chapter President, but represent our Theta Iota Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta so proudly by becoming this year’s Florida Atlantic University Homecoming Queen.
In addition, congratulations to Evan Konecky from Delta Tau Delta, for being named this year’s FAU Homecoming King! Fraternity and Sorority Life was represented very proudly!
On November 3, 2011, FAU hosted their annual Talon Awards, which seek to recognize superior efforts to one student, one faculty member, and one alumn. Of all 7 campuses that make up FAU, only 8 students that are initially nominated are chosen as finalists to receive this prestigious award. This year, Christi Carpenter, a senior in Alpha Xi Delta, was nominated and selected to be one of those 8 who were recognized for all of her efforts and dedication to the school. Christi is an executive board member for Alpha Xi Delta, an executive board member for Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society, an Elite Owl student leadership ambassador, and has worked in the athletic, music and journalism departments. In addition, Christi maintains an impressive GPA while pursuing a degree in Multimedia Journalism and Reporting with a minor in Commercial Music Business. Through her membership in Alpha Xi Delta, she has been encouraged to participate in outside organizations and ultimately owes all of her successes to her membership in this sorority. Way to Realize Your Potential! 🙂

Big/Little is one of the most exciting times in sorority life. Every year, right before new members are initiated as full members, they select who they want to be paired as their “Big Sister.” This bond is very sacred, and should be saved for someone who isn’t necessarily your best friend, but for someone who you look up to and aspire to be like. The role of a big sister is very special and should be taken very seriously, inspiring their littles and being a model of Alpha Xi Delta’s values.
The Big/Little process starts with the Littles making a list of their potential “Bigs” and being secretly paired. Throughout the week, the Bigs drop off anonymous gifts to their Littles, getting them excited for the big reveal. 🙂 This year, the Littles brought gifts to their Bigs and were more excited than ever before to find out who their future family tree would be! It was such a fun time for everyone!
On the day of reveal, Mallory Potter, our New Member Education Coordinator, organized a huge “Pumpkin Picking” since it was the weekend of Halloween. Each Big painted a pumpkin with the name of her Little on it and her name someone on or inside the pumpkin. Once the Little picked the right one, she discovered who her Big was and ran to find her under the pavilion at the park! It was so cute to see all the ecstatic Littles running to the Bigs who were waiting with open arms 🙂
Afterwards, the family trees all took a bunch of pictures then celebrated with a big family lunch! Check out the pictures to see all the fun and excitement!
On October 21, the ladies of Alpha Xi Delta hosted our annual Crush Party with the festive “Pick-A-Date” theme. Each sister and her date chose a holiday from the calendar and dressed according to that theme. Some top themes were Christmas, 4th of July, Valentines Day, Superbowl Sunday, Mardis Gras, Cinco de Mayo, St. Patricks Day, etc.
Our Special Events Chair, Brittany Gail Roberts, did an amaXing job planning and hosting the entire event, along with her assistant, Jessica Gerwig. The event was in Dowtown Delray Beach on Atlantic Avenue, and the venue was complete with dance floor, two stories, multiple bars, and a great stage for the DJ. Everyone danced the night away in their holiday outfits with our Pick-A-Date Crushes.
After a few tough weeks with midterms and a fully packed schedule, the sisters of Theta Iota are back on WordPress to tell you about what has been going on! It is craXi to think November has arrived, signifying the close of the semester, and we are blessed as a sisterhood to have had such an amaXing time together this Fall!
First and foremost is Philanthropy- it is one of the main values of our organization, and we are doing our best to put it in the forefront this year more so than ever before. Not only do we endorse and raise money for Autism Speaks, our national philanthropy, but we encourage our members to get involved in the philanthropies of every organization on campus. On October 7, the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon hosted their annual “Queen of Hearts” Pageant to raise awareness and funds for AIDS. Alpha Xi Delta proudly had three girls- Meghan Benham, Jaimie Gurske, and Kelly Griffith-all represent our letters during the competition. Meghan and Jaimie both wowed the audience with their dance routines, while Kelly won over the crowd and the judges with her violin/singing solo to Adele’s “Someone Like You.” She took home the 1st place title as “Queen of Hearts” and Meghan was 1st Runner Up! All 3 were great ambassadors for Alpha Xi Delta and did an incredible job the entire week!!
