An alumna’s look at her experience in Alpha Xi Delta and her continued love for our beloved sorority!
a.l.p.h.a.x.i.d.e.l.t.a Alpha Xi, Alpha Xi Deeeeeeeeelta!
Has it been 4 years already? I feel like it was just yesterday…sitting patiently with my Rho-Gamma waiting to visit the rooms during recruitment.
Nervous? Well, terrified actually.
I think everyone went through this. Although I had no idea at the time, the room I chose to be my home, very well changed my life.
Alpha Xi Delta truly made me realize my potential. The letters I wore proudly around campus, made me feel a sense of belonging – not only to my chapter, but in my own skin as well.
Throughout my four years as an active sister, Alpha Xi Delta pushed me to stand up for what I believe in, embrace my worth and keep my standards high. As an active sister, I constantly wanted to see my chapter improve, and I knew the first step to this was to improve myself. The more you begin to live out your purpose, the more your chapter will rise.
You see, the thing is, being surrounded by well rounded women truly does change your life. You begin to catch yourself striving to be better and pushing those around you.
Hold onto the relationships that were formed throughout your days as an active member. The bonds you made will last.
I always used to tell myself, “I’m not in college to meet my husband, I am here to meet my bridesmaids.” And although I was blessed enough meet my future husband while in college, I also met best friends that will be walking down the isle with me too.
There is nothing more beautiful, than a group of old friends getting together and reminiscing about the past. Thanks to my lifelong membership in my sorority, I know I have this to look forward to.
If you ever have the chance to join a sorority, do it. Don’t listen to all of the negatives out there. You can be the one to improve your chapter. You can be the role model that others look up to. You can make the difference. Just give it your whole heart.
Erica Gennaro was an active member in Alpha Xi Delta from 2008-2011. While in the sorority, Erica held various positions such as Philanthropy Chair and Chapter President.
